About Summer in the City 2019

 

The Western Art Team are seeking Durham University student volunteers to become Tour Leaders for the Bailey Gallery 2019 during June’s Summer in the City festival.

 

Summer in the City is Durham’s Music, Theatre and Arts festival which runs through out June. 

 

 

Festival Assistants

 

We are looking for friendly, outgoing people with a professional attitude to volunteer as Festival Assistants.

 

Festival Assistants will support events taking place across the city from 1st- 30thJune 2019. This is an excellent opportunity to meet artists and curators, and gain experience of delivering arts events and festivals.  

 

We welcome applications from members of the local community as well as students. No previous experience is required: as Assistants you will receive full briefing and support to deliver your role.

 

As a Festival Assistant, your role may include:

 

  • Supporting the running of events, including providing visitors with information, and assisting Artists and Staff with basic tasks;
  • Supporting the set-up and closing-down of events, which may include manual handling of furniture and equipment;
  • Approaching visitors and helping them to complete evaluation surveys.

 

We ask that Festival Assistants commit to complete at least 1 full day of volunteering 

(9am – 5pm) and attend training on Friday 24thof May 2019.

 

Completion of your responsibilities is likely to involve:

  • Being on your feet for a large portion of the day;
  • Walking between different Durham City locations on the day;
  • Undertaking supervised manual handling tasks, such as moving chairs and tables.

 

Festival events will take place on the historic site of Durham Bailey and City Centre. Assistants need to be aware of access issues including steps, cobbles, road traffic and narrow pavements.
