From soldiers in the Norman times to students in the present day, St Mary the Less has been a place of worship for many over the years. The historic features inside the Chapel and in the grounds chronicle its story.
St Mary the Less is the chapel of St John's College. It is an active place of worship for St John's College and Cranmer Hall, which is an ordination training college. The St John's College Chapel Choir sing a weekly evensong here too. The chapel dates back to the 12th Century but was extensively reconstructed in 1847 and has links to the Bowes family, who used to live on the Bailey. Current ordinands from Cranmer Hall and volunteers will be in the Chapel to welcome you and share its fascinating history.
