Art, Architecture and Museums
A season of events celebrating the history, art and culture of County Durham
Portraits are probably the most accessible and popular form of art. In an age of celebrity, they have come into greater prominence. So what can we learn from them, and how should portraiture be defined? This talk outlines some of the ways in which portraits work and why they are important. Ludmilla Jordanova is Director of the Centre for Visual Arts and Culture at Durham University, and was a Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery between 2001 and 2009.
This event is free, but booking is recommended.
