Lunar New Year Lantern Festival: late night special opening

Tuesday, 19 February 2019 , 6-8pm

Elvet Hill, Durham, DH1 3Th

Join us for a late night opening at the Oriental Museum, to mark the Lunar New Year.

For one night only see the Museum lit only by lanterns. Try fantastic crafts, sample delicious New Year food and drink, listen to stories and enjoy a gallery hunt.

First 100 children receive a free lantern.

Lunar New Year is celebrated across Asia, including China, Vietnam, Korea and Laos. During the two-week festival, people travel to see their family and friends, give gifts, and eat a new year meal.

2019 is the Year of the Pig so visitors to our Museum will be able to enjoy pig-themed crafts and trails, dragon dancing and storytelling. Traditional New Year food will be available to try and visitors can try games, traditional paper cuts and calligraphy.

£2 per person, under 2's free of charge. (no booking required)
