Since we held our first Durham Adventure Festival last year, it’s amazing how adventure now seems to be everywhere.
At least two TV celebrities have successfully climbed Everest (with documentary crews in tow, of course!), the extraordinary climbing film Free Solo has won an Oscar, and a new mother made international news when she smashed the record for the 268 mile Spine Race along the Pennine way.
It’s great that adventure and endurance now feels like part of the mainstream. But the downside is that this has made our choice of who to include in this year’s programme a tricky one. But we are delighted to enclose a copy of the full programme for DAF 2019, and we hope we have captured the spirit of the challenges – both big and small – that are happening everywhere.
For every household name, there are other speakers in the programme who you may not know, but who are doing equally extraordinary things. From Olympic quests and unprecedented rescue missions to epic explorations, our speakers will be telling their compelling stories of their extraordinary and exhilarating real-life adventures.
Alongside talks, our film schedule is full of award-winning adventure films that will inspire, and fill you with awe. And throughout the weekend, there will be loads of free speaker sessions, pop-up bookshops, food and drink offers and a chance to speak to gear experts from Montane and Cotswold. You can also enjoy demonstrations by the 3Sixty bike display team and a go on our free climbing wall.
So if you are not yet part of the adventure family, we hope we can tempt you to dip your toe in the (freezing!) water, and share in our adventure.
We look forward to welcoming you to Durham Adventure Festival.
