Fat Hippo are a small independent group of restaurants and we pride ourselves on only using local Northumbrian and Durham produce, linking with local suppliers and supporting business throughout the North East.
Fat Hippo has come a long way in the last five years. The brain child of Mike Phillips, born from a love of burgers way back in 2010. We pride ourselves on being a local business, born and raised in the North East. We want to deliver a burger that is consistently good and support other local businesses. That’s why we’ve always stuck with serving up beef from the North East. And why we push the boundaries with burgers like our iconic PB&J. We’ve taken good old dirty burgers and filled them with high quality, gourmet ingredients, good enough to make any foodie’s mouth water. If there’s one thing that Fat Hippo have remained over the years, it’s loyal to their region.
Mike, owner and director, said: “We’ve always been proud to be a North East brand which is why we’re committed to using local meat."
Currently, we are linked to local suppliers such as The Pudding Parlour who supply some of the desserts for our restaurants, Rough Luxe who are a local wood workshop who supplied and fitted the furniture for Durham and are currently in the process of refurbishing our Jesmond branch, local independent bakers Bakehouse who supply all of our buns.
