Durham Market Hall is 'more than just a market' ... it's Durham's Independent Department Store.
The Market Hall is home to more than 50 local independent businesses - right in the city centre. Each of our traders is a specialist in their field - we've stalls providing fresh food and drink, homewares, fashion and beauty, supplies for hobbies and pastimes, gift ideas and useful services! AND the Market Hall is open on Sundays through December up to Christmas, generally from 11am to 4pm, and on Sunday 4th December during the Christmas Festival, it's open from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Durham Markets Company has been operating markets the city since 1851. As well as the Market Hall, Durham Markets Company operates a number of other markets.
Durham's Saturday Outdoor Market is in the Market Place - and open each Saturday from 9am.
Durham City Farmer's and Producer's Market is held every third Thursday of the month from 9am in the Market Place - it is especially popular in December when we have queues for the fresh locally-grown vegetables.
Durham City Christmas Festival takes place for three days over the first weekend in December. During the festival, Durham is alive with markets, festive entertainment, the Children's Lantern Procession and so much more. For full details click through to the festival website.
