- Christmas InDurham
Were you there? Did you see it? Last week we switched on the Christmas Lights around Durham, helping the City to sparkle and shine this Christmastime.
If you were in the packed-out Market Place, you’ll know the special show featured musicians from solo drummers, jazz singers, rock bands, samba drummers and classical orchestras complete with a flash mob choir, all helping to spread Christmas cheer and power up the lights.
But, the Christmas festivities across Durham City don’t end there! On Sunday 8th December, you will be able to witness the greatest story that was ever told, as we bring to life the first noel with our re-enactment of the Nativity. Taking place between in the Market Place between 3.30pm and 4.15pm, actors and choristers will perform in an amphitheatre-style, following Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus Christ.
Of course, there will also be real-life camels carrying the Wisemen to visit the Baby Jesus in the manger, bringing with them gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Plus, following the performance, the camels and their caretakers will also be available for photographs, to help you and your family capture magical memories of an afternoon spent celebrating Christmas in Durham City.
The Live Nativity is a real family favourite and is a must-see for anyone looking for a great way to spend some quality time in the City with the people they love most. Now in its 5th year, it’s become a Christmas tradition for many visitors, who come back to the City year-after-year to watch this very special performance, and we do hope we’ll see you there this weekend!
Whether you’re religious or not, the Nativity is the reason why we celebrate Christmas in this country, and so our Live Nativity is sure to help spread Christmas cheer to all those who come along and watch the performance unfold – it’s not to be missed!
After all, nothing says ‘Christmas’ like getting wrapped up nice and warm and heading outside with family and friends to enjoy the fresh air. So, rather than heading out for a walk this Sunday after your lunch, we’d urge you to come into Durham instead to enjoy the Live Nativity. Better still, come in early for your Sunday Roast and save yourself the washing up!
There’s so much happening in the City as part of our Christmas InDurham programme and we’re sure you’ll find something for all the family to enjoy.
