Have you seen? If not, where have you been! Very recently, across our social media channels, we announced the return of a hotly anticipated event to the City line-up this February half term. That’s right… Fire&Ice InDurham is back!
Now in its fourth iteration, the festival will take place across the City on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd February 2019, with an exciting theme that is bound to keep your whole family entertained.
Having first debuted in 2016 with the theme of ‘Polar Exploration’ (is it really that long ago – they say time flies when you’re having fun!), and subsequent festivals depicting ice sculptures following the creative steer of ‘Myths & Legends’ and ‘Literary Characters’, we’re really pleased to tell you that the event is back for 2019 with the theme of ‘Heroes & Villains’.
So, if you’re looking for things to do in Durham with children this half term, look no further than Fire&Ice InDurham!
With ice sculptures to see, interactive stations and much, much more all set against the beautiful backdrop of Durham City, as if the festival wasn’t enough, we’re hoping you and your family will make a real day of it in Durham, by enjoying all that the City has to offer. It’s a great place to browse some shops, enjoy a nice meal or even share a few drinks with friends, while following the trail around the City.
Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled, as many businesses really get behind the event, dressing their windows to tie in with the theme of Heroes & Villains, as well as putting on special Fire&Ice InDurham special offers. Think hot drinks and spicy dishes to represent fire, or cool offers like buy-one-get-one-free to represent the ice.
There’s definitely something for everyone in Durham during the course of the festival and we’re looking forward to welcoming you, your family and friends into the City once again for this much-loved event very soon!
If this is your first time to the festival, here’s some handy info for you to know…
The premise of Fire&Ice InDurham sees an ice sculpture trail lit by flaming beacons across the City, with the opportunity for you to watch live ice carving demonstrations and give the art-form a go too, all under the watchful eye of master ice carvers from Glacial Arts, who worked on the set of smash TV series, Game of Thrones. Each evening of the event, the festivities culminate in a spectacular grand finale in the Market Place with jets of water and shooting flames dancing in time to music, fitting to the theme of the year’s festival.
The theme of Heroes & Villains is set to be our most creatively ambitious yet! Think all those characters you love to hate, as well as firm family favourites from the world of movies, TV and comics. It’s such a wide brief that has mass appeal, so we’re expecting to see even more people in the City for Fire&Ice InDurham this year than ever before – we really hope you can join us!
Now we’re into our fourth year, we’ve taken all the best bits from previous festivals and have updated this year’s event with a few tweaks – including one very special ice sculpture that’s bound to get people talking. We’re finalising the line-up of all the different icy installations and programme of events with the experts at Glacial Arts and are really looking forward to unveiling our grand plans very soon!
