Durham Town Hall (Burlison Gallery)

11.45am–12.45pm

Join two acclaimed poets as they discuss their brilliant debut novels.

Polly Clark’s Larchfield beautifully weaves the story of a struggling and isolated young woman with the life of the poet W. H. Auden. Set in the Scottish west coast town Helensburgh, where Auden lived and taught for two years, it is a powerful novel about bravery, loneliness and survival.

Ellie is ten when her mother suffers a breakdown and her world cracks apart. Moving and magical, Carmen Marcus’s How Saints Die is a stunning portrayal of mental illness through the eyes of a curious and imaginative child.
